As stated in the History Time Line, the 697th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company was activated and formed in Tunisia, North Africa, 4 August 1943. Nothing is known at this time on their mission in North Africa.
While searching the National Archive, documents called "Administrative History" and/or "War Diary" were found that give us insight as to the missions of the 697th. The first document, dated 3 September 1944, covered the period 1 July - 31 August 1944 and was written by Capt. Carl W. Bills who is believed to be the first
Commanding Officer of the 697th. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
