(simple my AS_)

(continued)
Brought to you by those good folks of the
697th Engineer Company (Pipeline)

OK, the spot was picked, burms built, floor laid, crow's nest up and the 1st and 2nd rings are up. Now it's time to hurry and get this thing finished.

3rd ring staves This is a very dangerous job. Working about 25-30 up with heavy staves is no easy task. But someone had to do it....Go 697th!
Tightening bolts Here is Sp4 Petty and Sp4 Fahey tightening bolts on the staves. From the looks of the back of Sp4 Petty's t-shirt, he may have been laying down on the job..Har Har (just joking Tom)
3rd ring up OK, 3rd ring is up.
Same procedure as the 2nd ring just a little higher up.
Pieces every where Now it's time for the roof. Same as the floor...lot's of pieces to work with.
Assemble roof sections This Tobin and 2 Thai helpers assembling the roof sections.
Roof connected to crow's nest The roof is lifted up and connected to the crow's nest .
Tighten bolts All bolts are tighten and torqued to specifications.
more roof This is a very tedious job...lot's of bolts.
Finished tank Ok folks...here it is, one complete 10,000 BBL storage tank ready to go. Compliments of the 697th Engineer Company (Pipeline)

On a much serious note, the men of the 697th worked long, hard hours in erecting these types of facilities to enable the Air Force to launch their F-4's, Skyraider's, Jolly Green's and other aircraft in support of missions in Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam. We were, and still are, proud to have served and supported our brothers in conflict throughout Southeast Asia.
